The ThinkPad SL400 is quite solid in terms of build quality, though the plastics used in the chassis construction do give in to some case flex when squeezed. The entire chassis exterior is plastic and while the appearance is nice, the "feel" of the notebook is a little less rugged than we've come to expect from ThinkPads. Unlike with the other ThinkPads, you don't get a double latch mechanism with button release to make sure the screen is held down when it is closed and being carried. Instead, the SL400 uses hinge tension to hold the screen in place.

The keyboard on the ThinkPad SL400 has zero flex and excellent key travel with quiet presses. The keyboard is remarkably similar to the keyboards on the older ThinkPad R-series notebooks. There's little to complain about here from a functional standpoint. Sure, it's not the most attractive keyboard on the market ... but it works great. Of course, the SL400 wouldn't dream of calling itself a ThinkPad if it didn't include the iconic red Trackpoint pointing stick in addition to the standard touchpad.

As it stands now, there are a number of reasons you might want to pick up an SL400 rather than a similar notebook from the Dell Vostro lineup or Toshiba Satellite Pro line. That said, diehard ThinkPad owners might criticize the glossy lid, lack of lid latch, and the type of plastics used in some places. The performance of our test configuration suggests the SL400 packs enough raw power to satisfy most small business owners, but it's clear that the new SL series isn't the same ThinkPad we've seen before.

Ziadne prekvapenie, jednoducho nahrada Lenovo 3000 ... preto aj vyzera inak, sprava sa trochu inak, pretoze industrialne T,R,X su pre mnohych ludi prilis hardcore. V kategorii kam miery to bude iste velmi dobry bojovnik

Hlavne je to dobry marketing... vydavat Lenovo 3000 pod jmenem Thinkpad nalaka urcite mnohem vic lidi. Prece jen Thinkpad ma velke jmeno.

Na druhou stranu je to od 3000 trochu blíž k těm ThinkPadům, což je příjemné. Já to vidim jako docela rozumný notes. Sám po 14" R61 budu pokračovat asi na nějakou vyšší třídu spíš, než směrem dolů, ale když to bude mít rozumnou cenu, tak bych to viděl jako notes pro mou milou...

SLka rozhodne nie su rebrandovane 3000ky - to je jasne uz od pohladu. Marketingovo je hlavne fajn urezat znacku, ktora zase taka super nebola a zivit tu spickovu

na druhu stranu to vyzera byt velmi slusny upgrade N200 a od thinkpadov zopar veci ma (trackpoint, matne displeje, aktivna ochrana hdd, thinkvantage utility). som dost zvedavy ake modely a za aku cenu budu dostupne u nas. pokial by cenovo nahradil u nas N200 tak by to bol celkom zaujimavy business lowend.

Ghost: ja mel za to ze SLko ochranu hdd nema? Ani v tom pdfku jsem to nevidel... zustala spousta detailu z 3000. Ale jinak, ano... je to takova evoluce zpet do sveta Thinkpadu. Proste se to lip proda. Cenu bych tipnul nekam k 18-20k CZK (ale asi bude vetsi rozpeti mezi 15,4 a 13,3") - uvadejici cena, nez komplet vystridaj na trhu Santa Rosa modely. Btw ani to nebude mit myslim Thinkvantage... ale asi zas jen neco jako LenovoCare. Ta klavesnice se vic podoba prave 3000 nez Thinkpadum.

edit: Aha tak Thinkvantage tam je... a asi i ten hdd protection. Zajimave.

uplne rovnaka uroven ako Rko to nebude lebo SL thinkpady nemaju roll cage, kovove panty a nemaju ani zamok na zaklapnutie displeja. je to nahrada za N200, ktora zaradenim do rady thinkpad ziskala niektore veci navyse. cielom SL rady imho nie je konkurovat R-kam.
