Intel will lower prices of Santa Rosa-series high-end CPUs by more than 30% in the third quarter and the move will stimulate the next wave of notebook replacement demand, according to sources at notebook makers.
Intel plans to lower prices of its T7500 and T7700 by almost 24% and 32%, respectively, the sources noted.
After hitting the market in the beginning of May, the Santa Rosa platform did not promote strong demand to replace existing notebooks in the end user-market, the sources said. Newly-released notebooks supporting the platform mostly incorporate entry-level CPUs such as T7100 and T7300 while very few adopted the T7700, the sources explained.
