nekde na foru jsem cetl ze je stejne velka. jen podle poctu clanku je prej obsazenejch vic policek ktery jsou u 6-cellovy prazdny. ja sam jsem videl obrazek notase kterymu ta baterka koukala ven ale nevim co to bylo za typ.

no ved prave, take nieco som aj ja videl, preto som v pomykove. vydrz by bola skvela vec, ale u mna bude 6 hodin na baterke aj zbytocnych. popripadne mozem dokupit neskor vacsiu baterku. aj na 6clankovej by bola vydrz tak 3-4 hodiny, tak som spokojny

Hi all. I've had my 1520 for a few days now so I thought I'd share my findings, thoughts, photos and some of the gaming benchmarks and impressions i've had since receiving this great little laptop. This won't by any means be a complete review, nor does it explore every feature of the laptop. My initial findings are based on my experiences with Dual booting the 1520 with XP and what sort of game performance I could get out of it.

Lets start with the specs:
I'm sure you all know the base specs of the 1520 by now so I'll just tell you which upgrades I decided on.

- Intel core 2 duo t7500 2.2ghz 800MHZ FSB
- Upgrade to Ultrasharp WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
- Upgraded to 7200rpm 160GB performance HD
- Upgraded to 9-cell 85Whr Battery
- Jet black coloured case with Matte finish


INITIAL THOUGHTS
The 1520 is a beautiful looking machine. I chose the black colour simply because its sleek and looks mean Everything out of the box ran perfectly and I was in the Vista environment within minutes of opening the box with game dvd's at the ready. I may sound bias from here on in but I'm not one of those "Vista bashers" for the sake of being a Vista basher. I genuinely just believe XP is the better OS for gamers right now. That could obviously change as time progresses and MS releases service packs, but for the time being my first impulse was to get XP dual booting on my machine.

GAMING
Before I went researching about dual booting with Vista, I installed a few games to get a kind of gauge of how well the laptop performs out of the box. I installed Battlefield2, Stalker and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.
Each game played fine on default settings and I noticed hardly any frame loss. However, pushing the envelope a little and putting up the screen res and antialiasing really made the games chug.

DUAL BOOT
Well this was a somewhat frustrating little exercise. Vista has awesome partitioning software built in, but the limit on primary partitions in windows is of course 4. Dell already has 4 primary's out of the box so it made installing XP a little difficult. I went down the road of deleting the 2gig dell media direct partition as I would never use this feature anyway. So, I was back down to 3 partitions. I was able to merge the 2 gig partition (now empty space) back into the c: drive recovering the space. Then I split the c: drive in half, so I could use half for vista and half for a new partition for XP.

XP installed fine and after a little boot loader trickery i was able to get the boot screen to offer me the choice of which OS I wanted to use. At the time of writing this, the Dell support website does NOT have drivers for the video or sound card listed under the 1520. I grabbed the latest nvidia drivers and modded INF file from http://www/laptopvideo2go.com and also did a basic search at dell for some generic Inspiron Sigmatel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio drivers. Each of which work fine on the 1520.

BENCHMARKS
So now that I had XP and Vista installed I was keen to see the game performace between each. First up was 3dmark06.

Under Windows XP I got the following score->


Under VISTA i got this score->


As you can see, XP performs a little better than Vista does.


At the default settings, XP wins again, although both OS's get the same score when the resolution and AA is turned up which shows the 8600 can't handle too much in this dept.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion
1024x768 Under Windows XP
No AA (HDR Bloom enabled instead)
All distant rendering on
AVG of 46fps

Same settings except 1680x1050 ->
AVG of 28fps

Oblivion looks great at 1680x1050 and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the game still played really smoothly on this res I haven't done Vista benchmarks with Oblivion. I knew XP was pretty much going to always beat it.

Battlefield 2 under windows XP.
16 bots, Sharqi Peninsula

1024x768 All settings on High, No AA = AVG of 69fps
1024x768 All settings on High, 8x AA = AVG of 44fps
1280x960 All settings on high, 8x AA - AVG of 34fps

I was very pleased to find Bf2 runs very well on the 1520 Heres a screeny of the last settings above:

So as you can probably surmise, the 1520 while not an "elite" gaming laptop rig, still holds its own well and generally plays most current games on high setting if you're willing to keep the screen resolution around the middle range and also keep the AA low or off.

I haven't benchmarked Stalker under XP yet, but on vista it was a little stuttery on the games default video settings. I'm expecting it to be fine on XP though.

As you know I opted for the 7200 160gig HD. I did a quick performance test in XP and in Vista using HDtune.

Vista is slightly better with its access time and average transfer rate. I'm hoping Dell release more XP drivers soon, but the over-all feel of XP is that it is much faster booting and operating than Vista is.

dik za reviw. myslim ze vista se bude jeste dloouho ladit - xpecka se ladi jeste dneska . podle mne kdo si udela dual boot kvuli hram tak to ma zatim smysl. chce to ale trochu carovat s partitions coz kazdy neumi tak si lidi daji do konfigu treba jen xp a budou spokojeny. ja mam jedinou hru/nehru - ms train simulator a ta doufam pofrci. jinak tam chci 3dgrafiku a 2danimaci. Ale hlavne zatim vim o te 1520 houby a tak se tesim az si udelam vlastni review

Podle tohodle asi ta silnější baterka z 1520 čumí ven, což je teda pěkně na pytel. Nevíte jakou výdrž by měl notebook mít s 6cell a jakou s 9cell batery? Bude to hodně na zvážení, páč to jak trčí ven je fakt děs. Díky.
