Dell XPS M1330 - už je

Pro mě osobně bylo při výběru hodně důležité NBD. Výborné zkušenosti s tímto druhem záruky u společnosti Dell mě přesvědčili, abych znovu koupil tuto značku. A právě nové XPSko je pro mě mixem vlastností, které u notebooku chci a to i možná za trochu nadhodnocenou cenu. Toť moje stanovisko, proč tenhle book.

Prebehol so toto forum, ale neviem ci sa vam oplati dat 45 000 za ten Dell. Podla mna za tu cenu zozenete ovela lepsie notebooky. To moj nazor.

Bohuzel nemas pravdu, v tomto rozmeru je jedina rozumna alternativa Sony SZ, ale cenove je jeste drazsi a se zarukou Dellu (mam 3 roky NBD) se neda srovnat.

Gulli: No možná bez LED. Dnes jsem byl v kontaktu s Dellem a ptal sem se jestli dodrží alespoň to předpokládané datum, když už to nebude dřív. A na to mi řekli, že bohužel to zaručit nemohou a že je možné, že se to ještě zdrží.

I figured I'd write a little step-by-step on how to get Windows XP SP2 installed on our new little baby

I tried Vista again for 2 days, but it REALLY REALLY is a slow operating system compared to a tweaked version of Windows XP... I just don't think its time for Vista yet... and I honestly tried to get used to it...

For your info, my machine was ordered on July 4 and received Aug 7 in to Montreal, Canada. I bought it on the 15% off deal and saved $470. It has the following specs:

XPS M1330, MATTE BLACK
C2D T7300 (2.0GHZ)
2GB, DDR2, 667 MHZ
LED display with camera
GEFORCE 8400M 128MB
200GB 7200rpm HARD DRIVE (this is a Hitachi by the way)
8X DVD+/-RW SLOT DRV (this is a MAT****A)
Bluetooth
Dell 1505 Wireless N
Basically everything maxed except NO fingerprint reader (mostly useless in my opinion)

My quick review of the machine as I received it.

- Fantastic build quality (and I've used many laptops before).
- It feels quite small, and doesn't weigh that much (I have the 6 cell battery). It feels almost as small as the Dell 700M that my girlfriend has.
- No CPU whine, in fact it hardly makes any noise at all. A fan on the left spews out warm air, but very quietly...
- No harddrive noise (I was afraid that I was going to hear something from the Hitachi 7200 rpm drive). It does get warm under the left palmrest though...
- Screen looks great, and has no dead pixels (not sure what the difference is with a regular LCD vs the LED, but if somebody can tell me how to tell for sure, that would be great.)
- Webcam is decent, and face-tracking works with the Windows XP drivers (I hope this doesn't mean I got the LCD instead of the LED)
- I LOVE the keyboard...super easy for me to type on it...
- Wireless works well
- Bluetooth works well (I bought the Dell wireless keyboard and mouse to go with my laptop).
- HDMI works well for both video (to my 1080p Samsung LCD) and audio...


OK, so now for the Windows XP walkthrough...

Step 1... You need a version of Windows XP SP2 with built-in SATA drivers... I personally use LastXP v16.1.1 (feel free to go find this on a torrent site somewhere, you have the option to install one of your own valid XP Pro keys as part of its setup)

Step 2... Start the computer with the Windows XP disk in the drive, and hit F12 to load the boot menu.... Pick CD/DVD drive...

Step 3... Windows setup will now boot (blue screens, etc). Here you will have the option to format your harddrive...

Dell likes to partition their drive into 4 partitions... 2 of them hidden partitions... (boot partition, Recovery partition, OS partition, mediadirect partition) I deleted them all and started from scratch (I burned the recovery partition to a DVD beforehand anyways, just in case).One of the partitions is for MediaDirect, but this is such a useless program, I would much rather have those 4 GB it eats up...

I'd recommend partitioning the OS into 2 partitions, one for the OS, and one for everything else... I chose 40 GB for C: and 160 GB for D: (NTFS of course)

Ok, now windows installs, (and a whole bunch of programs get silently installed too, thanks to LastXP!).

Step 4... DRIVERS! DRIVERS! DRIVERS!

Dell Support is missing quite a few XP drivers for the m1330...

I'd recommend FIRST installing the latest nVidia drivers from here:

Download 16250.exe and also 16250.inf (a forum member posted this file further down on that same page)
Double-click 16250.exe and then rename the 16250.inf to nv4_disp.inf and copy it over where you just extracted 16250.exe. Then and ONLY THEN will it let you install the video drivers by running Setup.exe

OK, then you should go download and install the following from the Dell Support website for the m1330 and Windows XP:

Intel Mobile Chipset
Broadcom 59XX 10100 Ethernet Controller Driver
Broadcom 59XX 10100 Ethernet Controller Utility
Creative Labs Laptop Integrated Webcam
Dell Touchpad - Pointing Stick
Ricoh Memory Card Drivers

Now it gets a little tricky, cuz Dell hasn't updated their m1330 drivers site very well...

Go to the Dell Support website for the XPS m1210 and Windows XP and download and install:

Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card

Go to the Dell Support website for the Inspiron 1501 and Windows XP to get:

SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio
(Unfortunately, HDMI audio option doesn't seem to be available in Windows XP so far)

Last but not least, go to the Dell Support website for the Inspiron 1520 and Windows XP to get:

Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR)


VOILA! That's it...you now have a perfectly running XPS m1330 in Windows XP! Of course, this is for my configuration. If you have a different wireless card for example, obviously I'd recommend installing the appropriate driver instead...

This machine flies in Windows XP by they way... I will have to start doing some benchmarking, but a quick test of the harddrive shows my burst speed at over 90 MB/s and an average throughput of over 53 MB /sec!

And in case you were wondering, there are no flagged items in Device Manager...

Koukám, že to tu nějako nežije... Doufám, že někoho nerozčílím, že sem přihodím pár fotek - v náhledu... Konečně jsem našel, jakej opravdu je ten LED displ. -> Macbook Pro je ale lepší... viz foto
